Portugal

Portugal has the best value golf in Western Europe with many magnificent golf courses. There are 3 golfing regions in Portugal – Greater Lisbon (including Obidos), Porto and Algarve.  Portugal’s over 75 golf courses are spread over these 3 regions with approximately half the golf courses located in the Algarve.  Taxis and golf course transfers are reasonably priced in Portugal.  We can provide the advice required on optimal itineraries, best hotels and golf courses to play.

Greater Lisbon (including Obidos)

There are a range of excellent hotels in Lisbon and you will travel 30 to 60 minutes to play each of the local golf courses. An option is to stay at one of a number of golf resorts located near Sintra (30 minutes west of Lisbon) and at Obidos (60 minutes north of Lisbon).  Two of the best courses to play are Oitavos Dunes and West Cliffs – followed closely by Penha Longa.

Porto

There are plenty of find 5 star hotels in Porto which can be used to base playing at the 4 golf courses within a 40 to 60 minute drive of Porto. The stand out course is Estela, a magnificent links course facing the Atlantic Ocean.   Worth considering is a visit to Vidago Palace, a wonderful hotel some 90 minutes drive from Porto with its own very good 18 hole golf course.

Algarve

Algarve is the famous golfing region of Portugal with around 40 golf courses spread over its 100 km coast line facing south to the Atlantic Ocean and North Africa. It has a wonderful year round climate.  There are an abundance of luxury 5 star hotels, most facing the ocean, and 4 star premium hotels.  The best approach to golfing in the Algarve is to chose the appropriate hotel and play the golf courses nearby.  The Algarve is a 2 hour 30 minute drive south of Lisbon or a short flight south to Faro Airport, in the centre of the Algarve.
