Paris to Normandy Ryder Cup Golf Cruise Luxury
10 Night Tour with 5 Golf Games
Plus Attendance at Final 2 Days of Ryder Cup

23 September to 3 October 2018

from A$10,679 per person twin share

Trendsetter Travel & Cruise Centre invites you to join us on this luxury Paris and Normandy golf cruise, including attendance at the final 2 days of the Ryder Cup at Le Golf National, a 30 minute drive from your luxury river ship berth in Paris. After 7 nights on board Uniworld’s boutique 128 guest ship S.S. Joie de Vivre, and immediately following the completion of the Ryder Cup, you will transfer to the luxurious Relais & Chateau property, Auberge du Jeu de Palme, Chantilly for a 3 night stay with 2 games of golf. Uniworld, a leader in luxury river cruising, is regularly rated the world’s best river cruise line. S.S. Joie de Vivre was launched in 2017 and is currently the most luxurious river ship sailing the Seine.

Your cruise includes all meals and beverages (standard alcoholic and non-alcoholic), gratuities, wifi, shore excursions, use of an on-board fitness centre and, for those in suites, a dedicated and highly trained butler. The 3 night Chantilly stay includes breakfast and dinner daily. In addition, guests will enjoy 5 rounds of golf, airport transfers, all coach transfers, prize money, and drinks post golf. There will also be a Virtuoso on-board ship credit of A$260 pp, converted to Euro for your personal use at any of the Serenity Spa, the boutique or an additional bespoke dining experience.

Golfers should not be concerned about joining the tour with non-golfing partners as the cruise includes complimentary shore excursions ensuring that partners will be kept well entertained. Similarly, Chantilly is a delightful town to explore or, given it is but 30 minutes by train from Paris, there is also the opportunity for a day excursion to the City of Light.

Attractive pricing options exist for single travellers.

Because we will play some of France’s most famous and traditional private courses, motorised cart hire is not possible at all courses. Caddies and electric/pull buggy hire alternatives are available on those occasions.

Trendsetter will be happy to organise additional nights pre and post tour at advantageous rates, and some with special benefits, so that you can make the most of your time in Europe.

Your tour hosts Nancy and Greg Incoll are talented, enthusiastic golfers. They have golfed throughout the world, and maintain homes in both Sydney and St Andrews, with membership at The New South Wales Golf Club and their St Andrews golf club.

They invite you to join them on this lovely cruise that is sure to provide many wonderful experiences and memories for participants.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Sunday 23 September 2018 – Paris

Arrive independently in Paris. Complimentary airport transfer is available. Enjoy a get together with Greg and Nancy, and fellow golf cruise tour participants, prior to dinner.

Day 2 – Monday 24 September 2018 – Vernon – Giverny – Les Andelys

After cruising through the night, wake up at the riverside town of Vernon where your inclusive tour (at your option by either bike or coach) will take you to Giverny and Monet’s Garden. After a pleasant couple of hours touring Monet’s Garden and home, you will return to the S.S. Joie de Vivre for lunch and an afternoon cruise to Les Andelys, another lovely rural village adjoining the Seine. The more adventurous of you might choose to climb up to Chateau Gaillard, Richard the Lionheart’s historic 12th century castle. However, there is coach transportation for those unable or unwilling to walk. The stunning views of the Seine and the French countryside from atop the stronghold are not to be missed.

Day 3 – Tuesday 25 September 2018 – Rouen – Golf Saint Saens

We berth early this morning in Rouen, the medieval town where St Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. Our extended stay should allow you to participate in an informative walking tour before the golfers are driven to Saint Saens golf course.

Day 4 – Wednesday 26 September 2018 – Caudebec- En Caux – Golf d’Etretat

After a drive through the scenic Normandy countryside, we visit the lovely seaside town of Etretat and play a round of golf at Golf d’Etretat. Located on top of the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic, this is one of the world’s most stunning golf locations and rivals the views from Cape Kidnappers in New Zealand.

Non-golfers will visit the beautiful fishing village of Honfleur, located at the mouth of the Seine.

Day 5 – Thursday 27 September 2018 – Rouen – Normandy Beaches

Outside of the Ryder Cup, the highlight of this cruise for many will be the full day spent exploring the Normandy landing beaches. While there are many touring options, we encourage you to include Omaha, Pointe du Hoc and the main Omaha Beach American cemetery with its excellent museum.

Day 6 – Friday 28 September 2018 – Mantes-la-Jolie – Golf de Saint Germain

We berth this morning at Mantes-la-Jolie. Unless you would prefer to visit the Palace of Versailles, today offers another opportunity to golf at one of Paris’ most famous golf courses. We are booked to play the Harry Colt (he of Pine Valley fame) designed Golf de Saint Germain which was remodelled in the 1990s to return the course to a more classic Colt design. This course is private and ranked # 6 in all of France – it has hosted 9 French Open Tournaments including the famous event won by Seve Bellesteros with a 62 in the final round.

We will return to the S.S. Joie de Vivre to discover the results of the 1st round matches of the Ryder Cup. Overnight we sail up the river to berth in Paris 30 minutes from Le Golf National and the site of the 2018 Ryder Cup.

Day 7 – Saturday 29 September 2018 – Paris – Ryder Cup

Your coach will depart after an early breakfast to arrive at Le Golf National in time for the opening foursomes matches. The 4 ball matches will be played during the afternoon, after which you will be coached back to the S.S. Joie de Vivre for cocktails and dinner.

For the non-golfers, there are various guided tour options of Paris including a cruise and city tour, a walking tour and a cycle tour along the Left Bank. Of course, there are also opportunities for independent exploring in Paris, including visits to one or more of the many famous art museums and galleries.

Tonight enjoy a final dinner on board the S.S. Joie de Vivre.

Day 8 – Sunday 30 September 2018 – Paris – Ryder Cup

While your cruise ends this morning, your tour does not. You will depart SS Joie de Vivre for Le Golf National and the climactic day of 12 singles matches, arriving at least one hour prior to commencement of play. On conclusion of the golf, the golfers will be transferred to Chantilly at the lovely Auberge du Jeu de Paume (http://aubergedujeudepaumechantilly.fr). Your luggage and golf clubs, and non-golfing partners, will have been transferred earlier in the day.

Day 9 – Monday 1 October 2018 - Chantilly – Golf de Chantilly – Vineuil Course

After a hearty breakfast, we travel to the nearby 36 hole Golf de Chantilly. Mid-morning, we are scheduled to play the Vineuil Course which is rated in the top 3 in France and the top 5 in all of Europe. The course was founded in 1909 with the site laid out by the renowned English golf course architect Tom Simpson. Famous for its penal bunkering, it retains its English feel and has been the venue for many French Golf Opens.

For the non-golfers, there will be an opportunity to visit the nearby Chateau de Chantilly, one of the best chateaus in all France and an 1870s rebuild of the original which was destroyed in the French Revolution. The chateau features a collection of over 800 masterpieces of European art.

Day 10 – Tuesday 2 October 2018 – Chantilly – Golf de Chantilly – Longeres Course

Today we will play golf at Golf de Chantilly’s 2nd, but still highly rated, Longeres Course – rebuilt under the guidance of Donald Steel in the late 1980s.

For the non-golfers, it is a free day. An option may be to include a train ride to Paris and spend the day exploring the Parisian shops.

Tonight, we will hold our tour farewell dinner.

Day 11 – Wednesday 3 October 2018 – Chantilly – Tour Ends

Say goodbye and enjoy a complimentary transfer to either Charles de Gaulle airport or Paris.

Policies of Ryder Cup – Paris & Normandy – September 2018

Golf cruises offer golfers an interesting way to travel, enjoy your passion for the game and remain fit while partaking in the gourmet delights most luxury cruise ships offer.  For those looking at the options available for you and your fellow keen golfers, here are some pro tips to help you find a cruise that meets all your needs. Finally, your ship has come in!

Check the itinerary

Check the itinerary before you book, to ensure it is a realistic schedule. Seek a cruise that features long and plentiful shore days at ports with good golf courses.  You will probably appreciate the occasional sea day to rest up and relax.

Go all-inclusive to save

High-profile US tour companies typically price their golf at US$500 (A$650) plus per person per round in addition to the cost of the cruise. Trendsetter Travel and Cruise Centre specialises in small all-inclusive luxury ships, and recommends this for the best experience.  Playing the same courses as its more expensive pier group, the golf package component of a Trendsetter cruise less than half the price of its international competitors.

Ship size does matter

Be wary of cruises for more than 1,300 passengers.  Large ships will give priority to their own tours when it comes to disembarking, preventing independently organised golfers from exiting the ship quickly.  Delays can mean missing tee-off times.  Even if you can overcome a late arrival, the delay can cause disappointment when you must abandon the course early to return to your cruise shipboat. David Cooper, the director of Trendsetter Travel, recommends selecting a cruise ship with between 100 and 900 passengers. “These smaller ships can also get to the smaller ports, such as St. Tropez, St. Malo, Menorca, Portofino, which all have great golf courses.”

Make sure you get enough time at port

Most golf excursions take at least eight hours—including return transportation to the course, an un-pressured golf game and importantly time post golf at the club for refreshments and prize giving. To make the most of your day, aim for a minimum of ten hours in port. Your group will need to arrive at the course an hour prior to tee-off, and allow for a round of four balls to be completed (plan on four and ½ hours hours).

Healthy competition and fair play

Select a golf cruise where the organisers incorporate adjustments up and down for players’ handicaps, after each round.  This means that the prize money is spread around over the tour. David Cooper advises to ask about this when you are booking.  “We run a handicap adjustment system after each round to establish a par stableford score for the day,” he says. “After eight games, the better performers may see their handicaps reduce perhaps two shots and the ‘battlers’ might earn four or five shots back.” Every tour golfer wants at least one collect.

Swing your partner ‘round

Cooper advises, “Where our golf tour participants book as a couple, they will always play as a couple unless they request otherwise.”  If you are booking as a single or wish to enhance the challenge by playing outside of your group, find an organiser who is mindful of matching players’ handicaps, so that you can get the most out of the cruise.

Beware the fake golf cruise

You may discover cruises advertised as a golf tour but, on closer inspection, find they only offer golfing pre and post cruise.  Check for this, as it might not be what you have in mind. Trendsetter golf cruises schedule a minimum of six games on cruise shore days.  David Cooper mentions, “We even create opportunities where a golf enthusiast can play additional optional rounds, and others can have a more limited golf programme depending on what they are looking for with equitable downward price adjustments.”   To learn more about the great golf cruises that Trendsetter Travel and Cruise Centre have available, please contact David on (02) 9428 5900 or on david@trendsettertravel.com.au
