Southampton to Lisbon Golf Cruise – 8 to 22 September 2023

Southampton to Lisbon Golf Cruise Highly Inclusive Silver Moon
8 to 22 September 2023 (14 Nights)

from AUD 10,050 pp twin share for luxury stateroom (excludes costs of optional golf programme)

Trendsetter Travel Golf Tours welcomes your joining us on this delightful golf cruise aboard the ultra-luxury 596 (max) guest Silver Moon, offering a wonderful opportunity to experience beautiful ports and play at up to 10 selected highly regarded golf courses, many of which rate as the leading courses in France, Spain and Portugal.  Silver Moon was launched in August 2021 and offers a selection of 8 different restaurants.  Staterooms have a minimum internal area of 31 sqm (which includes separate bath and shower) and unlimited standard wifi.  Balconies add an additional 5 sqm.

The perfect size for enjoying smaller ports, you’ll love waking up most mornings in a new location (with overnight stays in both Bordeaux and Porto).  All days but three are a port day.  Of our 3 well-spaced sea days, one day is sailing 100 km north west from Bordeaux along the fascinating Garonne and Gironde rivers. The itinerary is relaxed, offering particularly long port days to maximise your pleasure ashore.  September is a perfect time to visit this region – the summer crowds will have departed but temperatures will remain pleasantly warm to take advantage of balcony staterooms, or relaxing deck-side.

All Silversea cruises include beverage in suite and throughout the ship (over 80 complimentary wines are available), gratuities, butler service and open seating at restaurants.  Silversea is famous for its guest offering of complimentary “champagne and caviar anytime anywhere” on ship.

Trendsetter offers a golf programme covering 10 golf courses at 8 different ports. You can choose to play no golf, all 10 possible games or any combination between. Golf costs average Euro 250 pp/round (but subject to change depending upon final golf course costings) and includes coach transfers, green fees, shared motorised cart, drinks post golf and prize money each round. In almost all cases, the courses we play are the best available within an acceptable driving distance of each respective port. We have a bias towards golf clubs which can provide sufficient motorised carts for our tour party. The golf programme is priced at approximate cost. Several months in advance of the golf cruise, we will provide a detailed golf programme from which you can make an election as to which courses you wish to play.

We are your tour hosts. We have golfed extensively throughout the world, and have organised and hosted many successful golf cruises (and golf tours), many sailing up and down Western Europe.  Unlike most golf tour operators, we deal directly with the relevant service providers. This enables us to provide competitively priced golf at the best available courses and with no reduction in quality.

In addition to our golf cruises, Trendsetter Travel & Cruise Centre operates a retail travel agency on Sydney’s lower North Shore. We are able to book all of your travel requirements, and as members of the Virtuoso network can offer an excellent choice of hotels – with attractive free benefits – to perfectly complement your luxury golf cruise.

We invite you to join us for yet another exciting luxury golf cruise!

Itinerary

Day 1 – Friday 8 September 2023 – Southampton - depart 7 pm

Today board Silver Moon in Southampton, to commence your 14 night golf cruise.  Boarding is usually possible from 2 pm with time to have a relaxing late lunch on board.

We will schedule a welcome private cocktail function at approximately 6.30 pm which will allow all the tour party to meet up and Adrienne and David will provide a briefing on the golf cruise with the back drop of sailing out of Southampton.

Day 2 – Saturday 9 September 2023 – Honfleur (Golf – Game 1) – in port 6am to 7pm

We sail overnight to the historic and stunningly beautiful port town of Honfleur, located across the mouth of the Seine River from the famous French port of Le Havre.  Honfleur is walking distance from where Silver Moon will berth or alternatively there will be a complimentary shuttle coach offered by Silversea.

Golf Option – Game 1:  We play Golf Barriere Deauville, one of the leading golf courses in this region.  This course is a pleasure to play with its perfect conditioning, challenging park layout and fine club rooms.  On our return coach transfer to Honfleur, we will follow the coastal route including a drive through the famous seaside town of Deauville.  Post golf, there will be ample time to explore the beautiful historic town of Honfleur.

Day 3 – Sunday 10 September 2023 – Saint Malo (Golf – Game 2) – in port 6 am to 6 pm

Anchor this morning at the famous port city of Saint Malo.  With a long maritime history of seafarers, piracy included, this is an attractive and easy port to explore with many fascinating sites to visit.  Post golf there should be several hours of free time to explore the walled city of St Malo – a short walk from the tender wharf.

Golf Option – Game 2: we play St Malo Golf Resort, in our opinion the best of the many golf courses near St Malo.  It is a beautiful park land course usually in very good condition offering both a pleasant and challenging layout.  Post your golf game, there is an attractive restaurant/bar offering extensive inside and outside seating.

Day 4 – Monday 11 September 2023 – Sea Day

A relaxing day at sea allows you to experience the many on-board facilities which Silver Moon offers.  We expect to schedule a group lunch (entirely optional) in the main restaurant which on past cruises has been a lot of fun.  Silver Moon will spend today sailing around the Brittany Peninsula.

Day 5 – Tuesday 12 September 2023 – Montoir de Bretagne (Golf – Game 3) – in port 4 am – 7 pm

We berth early this morning at the mouth of the 1,000 km Loire River, a short transfer to the historic French town of Montoir de Bretagne.

For those wishing to give golf a miss, Silversea offers many interesting complimentary excursions including to St Nazaire where its pivotal role as a German submarine base can be understood with visits to many of the sites made famous by Operation Chariot, a successful British amphibious attack on the heavily defended Normandie dry dock at St Nazaire.  Alternatively, there is the option of a tour to visit Nantes, a city adjacent to the Loire River and a less than one hour drive.

Golf Option – Game 3:  we travel 20 minutes to visit the 45 hole Golf International Barriere La Baule.  We will play the 18 hole championship course designed by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas in 1976, a course which has previously held the French Open.  Post golf, there should be ample time to visit and explore Montoir de Bretagne.

Day 6 – Wednesday 13 September 2023 – La Pallice (La Rochelle) (Golf – Game 4) – in port 8 am - 7 pm

Silver Moon berths in the attractive port town of La Rochelle, some 60 km north of the mouth of the Gironde River which we sail down tomorrow morning on our journey to Bordeaux.  With 11 hours in port, there will be the opportunity to both golf and explore La Rochelle.

Golf Option – Game 4:  We travel 15 minutes north of La Rochelle and play Golf de la Pree – La Rochelle, the best golf course in the region.  Opened in 1989, this links course facing the Atlantic Ocean should provide an excellent golfing venue.   Post golf, there will be time to explore the port town and surrounds.

Day 7 – Thursday 14 September 2023 – Bordeaux (Golf – Game 5) – in port 9.00 am – stay overnight

After a scenic journey of of 100 km from the mouth of the Gironde River, we berth at 9 am in the heart of Bordeaux.  Bordeaux, once France’s richest community and largest port but it is now second only to Paris in terms of size.  Famous for its delicious cuisine and wines, particularly from the well-known wine areas of the Medoc and Saint Emilion – both areas we will visit on our two golfing excursions.  Silver Moon will berth within a short walk of the historic down town district of Bordeaux.

Golf Option – Game 5: A 30 minute drive from our berth, we visit Golf du Medoc one of the leading golf resorts in all France.  We play the Bill Coore designed Chateaux course.  Coore has partnered Ben Crenshaw in many iconic golf courses including The Plantation Course on Kapalua.  This course is rated # 1 in South West France and in the top 10 in France.  Post golf, there will be time to explore Bordeaux by foot early evening prior to dinner.

Day 8 – Friday 15 September 2023 – Bordeaux (Golf – Game 6) – in port all day

Golf Option – Game 6: We drive 60 km through the wine growing areas of Bordeaux to play the Tom Doak designed Golfique du Grand Saint-Emilionnais (2015).  While Doak is famous for his design of many great courses including Barnbougle Dunes, Pacific Dunes (Oregon) and Cape Kidnappers, this is his first design in Europe.  Since opening, it has been rated one of the top 10 courses in France.  Importantly, on the return journey, we will stop at the famous historic town of Saint Emilion for an hour or two.  As with past Trendsetter golf tours in Bordeaux, this will allow time to explore the historic hill side town, perhaps try out some of the local wines and maybe have a late lunch at one of the many outdoor restaurants.  There will be time to further explore Bordeaux by foot early evening prior to dinner.

Day 9 – Saturday 16 September 2023 – Bordeaux – depart 7.30 am

Supported by a commentary from the bridge, you will spend several hours this morning cruising 100 km along the historic Garonne and Gironde rivers to the Atlantic.  The views are spectacular with many famous vineyards and towns located near the river bank.

We berth today in the historic Spanish port town of Vigo, located on the Vigo River, approximately 20 km north of the border with Portugal.  Our 10 hour port day should allow time to both golf and independently explore the fascinating and architecturally attractive town of Vigo.

Golf Option – Game 8:  We travel 20 minutes by coach across the Vigo River to Club de Golf Ria de Vigo, a Par 72 course, opened in 1993 with attractive sea views.  This is the best course within the greater Vigo region.  Post golf, there should be time to independently explore the historic area of Vigo.

Day 13 – Wednesday 20 September 2023 – Oporto (Golf – Game 9) – in port 8 am – overnight

We have a full shore day at Porto, the largest city in Portugal after Lisbon.   For those not golfing, there is the historic port area of Porto to explore or take one of the Silversea shore tours.
